Revolution Notebook: Jack Panayotou Comes Home
New England Revolution Notebook: Jack Panayotou Comes Home
Who will be calling New England Revolution matches in 2023? On Tuesday the league revealed an initial wave of names that will be a part of its Apple TV broadcast plans. For Revs fans the only name that really pops off the page is former Revolution forward Taylor Twellman who left ESPN in recent weeks. Twellman will serve in an analyst role.
Notably absent is long-time Revolution play-by-play announcer Brad Feldman and his partner for the past couple of seasons Charlie Davies. For fans looking for local knowledge, they might have to keep on looking as MLS is fully on the path of national broadcast teams that lack the in-depth knowledge of a local team. It appears that the league and Apple TV will be leaning on local club in-house media to bridge the gap and create local content for them based on reporting from Pablo Maurer of The Atheltic.
Ultimately that is all I have to say about the Apple TV situation for the time being. A debate-style episode of Revolution Recap will go into more detail of my thoughts on the deal and how it could effect the league long term.
Revolution Ink Jack Panayotou To Homegrown Deal
New England got its job done on Tuesday by signing 18-year-old midfielder Jack Panayotou to a Homegrown Player contract. He is the 10th Homegrown Player signing in club history and will be with the club thru the 2026 season (one-year option for 2027).
“I’m incredibly honored to sign a Homegrown Player contract with the New England Revolution,” Panayotou said. “Having been with the club since I was at the Under-13 level, this is truly a dream come true. I am thankful to Bruce Arena, Curt Onalfo, and the entire organization for this opportunity, as well as to my Georgetown University family for their support. I am excited to begin my career with my hometown club, continue to develop as a player, and earn my place on this team.”
Panayotou was named the 2022 UHC Revolution Academy Player of the Year and was a big reason why the U-19 team won the 2022 MLS NEXT Cup national championship where he scored six goals in the tournament.
The Cambridge native did test the NCAA by playing for Georgetown where he scored seven goals across 19 appearances in his Freshman season. It’s also worth noting he has had three call-ups to the U.S. YNT U-19 squad.
This was an important signing for the Revolution as it was clear with Revs II last season that Panayotou has the potential to be an excellent player. It will be interesting to see how he fits into this Revs roster.
Revolution Championship Window Closing?
Over at Revolution Recap, we did a debate episode where I took on Seth Macomber of The Bent Musket. My side was that the championship window was not closing after 2023 while Seth was debating the opposite.
Good back and forth, the debate itself doesn’t express my exact opinion on the window and was more of taking the stance for entertainment purposes. Give it a listen and let me know who you think won the debate.
