Revolution Announce 2023 Preseason Schedule
New England Revolution Announce 2023 Preseason Schedule, Five Matches Against MLS Teams Ahead Of 2023 Season
On Friday the New England Revolution announced their 2023 preseason schedule. New England will play a total of five preseason matches ahead of the 2023 Major League Soccer season. All five matches are against MLS opponents and will take place at various locations across the state of Florida
The Revolution will report to preseason on Monday in Foxborough where they will train for four weeks prior traveling down to Florida on January 29th for their five friendlies.
As of post there are no plans for any streaming options for the five matches but the final match which is against Orlando City SC on 2/18 will take place in front of fans at Exploria Stadium and will be the only open match of the preseason slate.
Below is the full five match schedule.
2/2: v Inter Miami at 11:30 a.m. ET
2/5: v Philadelphia Union at 12:00 p.m. ET
2/10: v Nashville SC at 1:00 p.m. ET
2/14: v FC Cincinnati at 12:00 p.m. ET
2/18: v Orlando City SC at 7:30 p.m. ET
Given the lack of a streaming option I will try and bring as much coverage as possible in preseason but a full match recap of any of the matches is unlikely given the lack of full visibility to the match itself. A lack of streaming options for preseason isn’t new, sometimes one or two end up being streamed but certainly disappointing that there isn’t a plan for it this season. Feels like an opportunity missed to build buzz ahead of 2023 and could have been a soft landing for Apple TV broadcasts to start in a small way.
Housekeeping Notes
Since the
last Revolution notebook
went out the club officially re-signed Nacho Gil and acquired defender Dave Romney from Nashville SC.
Per the club the deal with Carles Gil’s brother is for two years and there is an option for a third year. The midfielder will occupy an international roster slot and appeared in five matches in 2022.
As for the Romney move the club sent Nashville $250,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money and $275,000 in 2024 GAM. In total the move cost the Revs $525,000 in GAM which is a significant investment. The 29-year-old centerback is one of the more reliable players in the league having started 66 matches over the past two seasons. Pretty clear he is vying for a Starting XI spot right off the bat. Will be interesting to see how the CB position pans out and how Romney fits into the group that has returning starters Andrew Farrell and Henry Kessler.
A side note, Revolution II announced two signings on Friday adding two midfielders to their MLS NEXT Pro roster for 2023. One player is 24-year-old Ben Awashie who comes to the club right from Grand Canyon University where he appeared in 12 matches in 2022. Awashie is from Ghana and originally started his collegiate career at the University of Connecticut where he appeared in 25 matches. The other signing for the mini Revs is Nakye Greenidge-Duncan who is 19-years-old. He started his pro career with Toronto FC II where he scored three goals and tallied an assist in 14 matches last season. The midfielder joined the Toronto FC Academy in 2015 and signed his first professional deal in April 2021.
