New England Revolution Draft History Laid Out
On Thursday the New England Revolution and every other Major League Soccer club will be dialing into the 2021 MLS SuperDraft. In the draft, the Revolution have the 24th, 51st, and the 78th overall pick.
Revs & The 24th Overall Pick
New England with all of its history in MLS has actually had the 24th overall pick on two different occasions. Both times that pick was in the second round with MLS not having over 24 teams up until a few years ago. In 2011 the Revs selected Stephen McCarthy with the 24th overall pick and in 2009 they selected Andre Gotsmanov. McCarthy, a defender actually appeared in 21 matches his rookie year with 18 starts and appeared in 69 matches over four seasons in New England.
As for Gotsmanov he never played for the Revs. His pro experience came with Minnesota United when they were in the second tier of U.S. Soccer.
Revs & The 51st Pick
Just like the 24th overall pick, the Revs have had the 51st pick twice throughout their history. In 2016 they selected Femi Hollinger-Janzen and in 2007 they selected Kyle Helton. Hollinger-Janzen appeared in 21 matches over three seasons in New England and had just two starts. The midfielder did bag two goals and one assist in his rookie season. He last played for Jay Heaps at the Birmingham Legion in USL Championship.
As for Helton, he never played for the Revs and his only pro action came with Austin in the second tier back in 2009.
Revs & The 78th Pick
New England has only had one other pick 78 in their history. This occurred in 2018 when they selected Nicolas Samayoa. He never played a match for the Revs and his only professional action took place in 2018 with the Las Vegas Lights.
